As Russia builds up forces around Ukraine, the ranking members of the House Armed Services Committee Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), and the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), with Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) made a push to accelerate Washington’s proposed sale of 250 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 tanks to Poland. The Abrams acquisition will allow Warsaw to replace its Leopard 2A4, Leopard 2A5, and outdated Soviet T-72 and PT-91. The sale will send an important message to NATO and the Kremlin. It will also build interoperability between American and Polish forces while strengthening the U.S. industrial base at the same time.

Polish officials expect the first delivery of the tanks in 2022. Still, according to the maker of Abrams tanks General Dynamics chief executive Phebe Novakovic, the deal could take two years to close.
