Your support is needed to ensure that the Senate matches the House level of funding.

Polish American Congress, Washington D.C., June 8, 2007 -- Recently, on June 5th, 2007, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs approved a version of a bill that, among other provisions, would provide $501 million to international exchange programs in FY 2008. This funding would support a growth of core exchange programs in the world, and also it would provide additional funding to Eastern Europe including Poland.

The image of the United States in the international arena is not as positive as it used to be in the past. Many US policies on different subjects are criticized overseas. For every country it is important to have strong diplomatic, business, cultural, and academic bonds with other countries. United States is one of the main destinations of the top choice in academia, science, and business, and many students, scholars, and businessmen come to the United States to gain broader knowledge in certain subjects or to gain more professional experience. Currently, there are more than 230 nonprofit U.S. based organizations that help with the growing international exchange links between the United States and countries from all over the world.

The proposed legislation by the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs is going to be considered on the House floor within the next three weeks.

It is crucial that the Polish American Community voice thier support and urge members of the U.S. Senate to mtach the House level of funding for educational and cultural exchange programs.
