State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka's
Smart Women Smart Money Conference
Serves Up Financial Education

Niles, Illinois--Financial information was on the menu for over 500 participants during Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka's second annual Polish American Smart Women Smart Money conference and dinner held at White Eagle Banquets Hall in Niles on June 13.

Besides Topinka's keynote remarks, three speakers offered their expertise: U.S. Secret Service Special Agent Victoria Fisher discussed "Identity Theft and Emerging Technologies," Maureen Carson, Fifth Third Bank Vice President, provided an overview of health savings accounts and Mayra Salazar, Social Security Administration Public Affairs Specialist, explained the importance of Social Security.

"Our goal with the Smart Women Smart Money conference is to give women the tools they need to succeed financially," Topinka said. "When it comes to money, we all need to go the extra mile to prepare for the future because we never know what the future may hold." The number of attendees at this year's seminar increased from last year's inaugural event. "I am proud to see so many women taking a proactive approach to their financial well-being," Topinka said. "In this day and age it's very important for women to take advantage of educational opportunities such as this conference to help them reach their financial goals."

The event, which was co-sponsored by the Polish Women's Alliance of America, featured a complimentary dinner and an array of vendor booths. Besides the Polish American conference, Smart Women Smart Money conferences have been held in African American and Asian Pacific communities and more are scheduled.
