The Officers and Members of the Polish American Congress, Eastern Pennsylvania District and the Polish American Cultural Center Museum in Historic Philadelphia, extend congratulations to Mr. Frank J. Spula, who was elected the national president of the Polish American Congress during the Congressís National Council of Directors meeting in Washington, D.C., on Friday, October 28, 2005.

Mr. Spula, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, has been a longtime participant of the Polish American Congress. He served as president of the PAC Illinois Division from 1992 to 1999, and has been a member of the PACís National Council of Directors for the past 20 years.

There were two candidates for national President, Frank Spula who received seventy-five percent of the vote, and Ludwig Wnekowicz, a National Vice President of the Polish American Congress for Polish Affairs, received 25 percent of the vote. Following the election, Mr. Wnekowicz extended congratulations to Mr. Spula and looks forward to working together with Mr. Spula and the PAC. In his opening remarks as the new president, Mr. Spula said that he will work with the congressís state divisions and chapters, for the overall well-being of Americaís Polonia, and maintain a working relationship with the leaders of Poland. The Polish American Congress represents 3,000 organizations and Americaís Polonia which numbers more than 20 million individuals who share full or partial Polish heritage.

Mr. Spula was sworn in by Msgr. Stanley Milewski, of the Orchard Lake Schools, as past president of the Polish American Congress, Virginia Sikora, and members of the National Council of Directors witnessed the swearing in ceremony. On the evening of October 28th, the National Council of Directors were invited to the Polish Embassy in Washington, DC, for a reception. During the ceremony Mr. Boguslaw Winid, acting Ambassador of Poland, extended best wishes to Mr. Spula as the new president of the National Polish American Congress.

Mr. Spula also serves as President of the Polish National Alliance, which was a founding member of the Polish American Congress. PAC was founded in 1944 as a national umbrella organization for Polish American organizations across the United States.
