Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz
Apostolic Palace
00120 Vatican City

In the name of the Polish American Congress and all of its member organizations across the United States of America, and in the name of the more than 10 million Americans of Polish descent, I express our deepest and most profound sympathies to the College of Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church, to the officials of the Holy See, to the household of Pope John Paul II, especially to Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz and Msgr. Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, his personal secretaries, to the Reverend Sisters of the Papal Household, and to all citizens of Vatican City.

In this hour of great sorrow and loss, we pledge our faithful prayers, especially prayers of deep gratitude for his twenty-six years of exemplary service as the Vicar of Christ on earth, as the spiritual and moral leader of the world, as the model of love and hope, especially expressed in his words, "Be not afraid," as the pontiff of sympathy for and service to the poor, verbalized by him in the words, "True happiness lies in giving ourselves in love to our brothers and sisters," and as the moving force in the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe.

Bound to him through the Polish blood that flowed in his and our veins, we promise to cherish and uphold the ancient traditions of fidelity of Poland to the Church, to ever be "semper fidelis," to respect the value of human life from conception to natural death, and to love our Heavenly Mother under the title of Our Queen of Poland. May God, whom he served without counting the cost, reward him in eternity.
